Frequently Asked Questions About Luxury Vinyl Tile Floors
How thick is luxury vinyl tile’s wear layer?
Wear layers can range in thickness depending on the manufacturer and the quality of the product. The thicker the wear layer, the better the performance. Normally, a 12 mil wear layer would be appropriate for residential use, while 20 mil or higher is considered applicable for commercial use. A active household with children and large pets might want to consider a thicker wear layer for increased performance and durability.
Do I have to grout my luxury vinyl tile?
Grout is optional. Whether you choose to grout your tile or not is purely a matter of personal preference. That said, grouted tile can enhance the look of your floor, highlighting color and surface texture while mimicking the rounded corners and edges of ceramic and stone.
Does exposure to UV light affect luxury vinyl tile?
Too much exposure to the sun can cause fading or discoloration. Make sure curtains, blinds and drapes are closed during periods of strong sunlight.
Can I use rugs or mats on my luxury vinyl tile floor?
Yes, but make sure they are labeled “colorfast” by the manufacturer. You can use non-staining vinyl-backed mats or woven rugs. Rubber or latex-backed mats are not recommended because they can permanently discolor the floor.
